Bithlo is an area that is around 5 minutes from the Avalon Church where I congregate. A person who lived in Bithlo, in a mobile home community asked our church if someone would come to her house to pray with her in Spanish. A sister and I were happy to go and from the first day it was very shocking for me to see such a populated community with great economic needs and being so close to my neighborhood. I already had the privilege of cooking and sharing food with our Downtown brothers and sisters as part of the Jesús Love you, Love him back ministry. So I asked one of our benefactors who provided us with food for Downtown if he could support me by giving me more food to share in that community. From that date I began to share food with each trailer. The methodology was very easy because at all times I felt protected by the favor of the Lord. I knocked on the door, introduced myself and simply asked how many people lived at home. And I was preparing the food package that I would deliver. And when they asked if they had to pay of course the answer was a loving "no". So why? The answer to this day remains the same: Your Father sends it to you, who is well in heaven. A few weeks later, a neighbor from that community told me that if I could bring food to the boys in the forest... It was the first time I discovered what he was referring to; men and women, young and old living or it would be better said surviving within what is known here in Florida as reserves or forests. From that moment on, it is clear to me in my conscience and in my heart that I had been invited by God. I would become Puente to pick up food from anywhere to deliver it to our sisters and brothers in any area of Bithlo that they are. Over time our Lord opened more doors and more donations arrived, the food was abundant. The mills are many and few the workers. But the Lord in his beautiful mercy has brought men and women with a heart willing to share, to embrace the needy, to pray for the wounds of others, to serve seeking to reflect the gaze of Jesus. The day came when the small personal car I had was not enough, and the miracles kept coming. I received as a donation a van which is unstoppable throughout the city carrying food, blankets, clothes, tents; all this received as donations. Our mission is not only to deliver food, this is a beautiful and necessary path to get closer, we have the beautiful opportunity to share the message of salvation, to pray for each other to build a relationship of friendship and today of brotherhood with each one
Every week our volunteers go around the Bithlo area bringing fresh food and basic necessities to our brothers and sisters. Through prayer we come together and rejoice in our Gods love. When asked about what this means to some this is what they had to say:
" This is a blessing to see you guys every week is something i look forward to every week" - Robert
"It is very uplifting for me and its really helped me out, you guys coming out this way and giving what you've gave"- Travis
"I just wanna say that its a blessing that there are still people in this world that still care and still help others just because you meet someone having a bad time doesn't mean they're a bad person" - Frank
When speaking to our volunteers how they felt about doing our Gods work through this mission:
"I very much enjoy the work but above everything else I feel peace and joy within when I see that I can help others and we can all help one another."
"Its truly all about coming together and becoming the bridge between everyone, introducing new people to gods love and seeing the faith."
